Here we go from my London, UK studio to NYC!

“In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of….” sorry, can’t help myself! This song has been in my head since I received an email earlier today that I have had my painting ‘Burst, 2022’ selected for an exhibition in New york city. I mean, this is exciting!

‘Burst’ above, is currently being packaged and crated after which will be sent on its merry way across the Atlantic to NYC for a group exhibition titled ‘Explore 01’ at the Kroll building just off Fifth Avenue. This exhibition has been curated by Artcan, a wonderful not-for-profit arts organisation that supports and enriches artists. I’ve been a member of Artcan since they began about 6 years ago and it’s been a pleasure working with an organisation fairly supporting & promoting artists on an international level.

Exhibiting in America

This will be my first time exhibiting work in America & I feel like the timing is spot on for a couple of reasons. My current work is in a good place, it sits well with me at the end of a long studio day equalling a pure feeling of satisfaction. I’ve spent years hammering out my own voice/ style in my work and it’s finally coming together. I feel connected to how I’m painting- if that makes sense.

It’s been in my broader plan to have my paintings shown in America, specifically New York, LA and Miami for some time now. The art scene is thriving there and as I understand it Abstraction is presently very popular in the American art market right now.

New York City has a long relationship with Abstraction, particularly Abstract Expressionism which developed through artists who fled Nazi Germany during WW2 arriving in NYC. Think Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell and Jackson Pollock. Abstract Expressionism has influenced my work since my early days in art school. I still flick through books on this movement when I hit a creative block as this movement and its artists never cease to amaze me.

This is a first for me but here’s to more opportunities Stateside. I’m really pleased to add this show to my exhibition history on my cv & chuffed that opportunities like this are finally coming my way- let’s see what happens next!
