Obscured Flow is part of a body of work created while on an art residency in Cill Rialaig Arts Centre, Co. Kerry off the west coast of Ireland. The residency is situated in an old famine village and what were originally huts are now studio cottages that look out across the Atlantic ocean. Large gestural brush marks are mixed with hard painted lines reflecting the movement of the sea that I watched each day from my studio and the stillness of the rocks or Skelligs (Gaelic for sharp, jagged rocks) native to the area, a cocktail of structure and chaos! Pops of red, orange and white oil pastels mimic the craggy shapes of stone walls which surrounded my studio cottage.
