There’s a particular moment in the life of a painting that always feels significant—when it leaves the studio and becomes something complete.

This week, I visited my framer, James Kelman, to collect some newly finished works that will soon be exhibited at The Other Art Fair London March 2026. It’s a fun moment in the process of making paintings—where evolving pieces finally take their place as resolved artworks, framed & ready to hang in their new homes.

The Final Stage: From Studio to Frame

Framing is never just a finishing touch—it’s an extension of the work itself.

Each of my paintings, created through a process of layering oil paint, charcoal, and mark-making, carries its own rhythm and weight. As I’ve written previously in my creative journal, my work is rooted in balancing structure and spontaneity, often shaped by my abstract landscape series.

Seeing the paintings framed transforms them. Edges sharpen, colours settle, and the composition finds its final boundary. It’s the moment where the work shifts from something personal to something ready to live in someone else’s space.
