April 2019: A Long Art Studio Journey

I’m finally moving into my new art studio at Delta House Studios, and I couldn’t be more happy as it’s been quiet the art studio journey trying to find a good, affordable space to work in with a trail of eclectic and sometimes downright bizarre art studios behind me! 

Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2014, I’ve had my fair share of studio experiences across London—some good, some bad, and some unforgettable.

Art Studio Journey: From Free Studios to a Kebab Shop

After leaving art school, I was eager to find any space where I could paint and develop my practice. I’ve had free art studios that came with their own set of quirks, like makeshift heating systems and questionable plumbing. 

Then there was the studio I had in an office building—a weird but functional space where I could lose myself in my work after everyone else had left for the day. But perhaps the most memorable of all was the studio I took over in an old kebab shop on Holloway Road. The smell of grease and spices lingered for months, no matter how much I scrubbed and painted over it. Still, that place strangely had its charm. I guess because it was a starting point and helps me recognise all that has happened since that time, its important to reflect!

Appreciating My Student Studio Days

Before that, during my time at Central Saint Martins and ATU Galway City, I had access to incredible spaces on my art studio journey and I took them for granted. Back then, I didn’t fully appreciate how lucky I was to have those creative havens where I could experiment, make mistakes, and grow and the cost was included in my tuition. It’s only now, after years of bouncing between various studios, that I realize just how important that space was to my artistic development.

Appreciating My Student Studio Days

An art studio isn’t just a place to paint—it’s a space for personal development. It’s where I can experiment, dream, and sometimes fail without judgment. Over the years, I’ve grown alongside my studios, adapting my practice (here’s a look at my work through the years) as I adjusted to new environments. Each space taught me something different, shaping the way I approach my work today, its a very intimate relationship!

Finding My Own Space at Delta House Studios

Now, as I settle into Delta House, I’m thrilled to finally have a studio that’s entirely mine. No more sharing, no more working around someone else’s clutter, schedule or negotiating for wall space. This studio is a reflection of where I am now in my journey as an artist—confident, independent, and ready for whatever comes next.

A Space for Growth and Inspiration

I’m looking forward to seeing how this new space influences my work. I’ve learned that each studio leaves its mark on my practice, and I can’t wait to see what Delta House has in store for me. Book a studio visit to come and say hi in my new space!
